The Marine Fish farm Project in Ain Al-Ghazala

The Marine Fish Cultivation Complex Project in Ain Al-Ghazala:

This project was established in 1989, and it actually entered operation in 1995, aiming to produce 600 tons annually of fish. The farm is located on the Gulf of Ain El-Ghazala, west of the city of Tobruk. The total area of the farm is about 50 hectares. It contains administrative buildings, workshops, warehouses, and a group of floating cages. In addition to 2 salty water wells. The farm was operating until 2010 with a low production capacity of about 18 tons of seabass fish. That it was owned by the state, and belonged to the public sector until 2005, when it was privatized with the aim of raising its productivity, but without feasibility. In 2010, the General Assembly began to review the ownership procedures as a result of the non-fulfillment of the owner company to their obligations. In general, one of the most important reasons for poor productivity was the lack of financing required for operation. Weak infrastructure marketing, lack of experience and technical skills of farm workers, difficulty in obtaining fodder, and lack of laboratories which are necessary to deal with diseases that affect constipation. Ain Al-Ghazala site is characterized by the fact that it is a 600-square meter bay hectares, in addition to a coastal lake in the form of an inland lake with an area of 180 hectares, with an average depth of about 2 meters passed. However, there are sites in the lake that reach a depth of 4 meters. The site is suitable for cultivation using floating cages and ponds. In fact, many scientific studies have proven that the site is highly suitable for fish farming of many species, the most important of which are sea bass and aurat, in addition to mullet, and the site has proven by experience its suitability for the cultivation of mussels. And the chance of success of the site is very high.

It is worth noting that in the early eighties of the last century, a foreign company conducted a feasibility study to exploit the site completely in a fish farm project using the regular pen system for large-scale culture on an area of 30 hectares, and the system of ponds for intensive culture on an area of 500 hectares, as well as a system of floating net cages in the waters of the lake. The study showed that all environmental data are suitable for these three types of fish farms. The success opportunity Suite this project is very large if it is returned to the ownership of the state in accordance with the law relating to the acquisition of coastal lands. The following pictures It is for the site of Ain El Ghazala farm, where there are some remains of floating cages, some boats and dilapidated buildings.
